Hello Monkeys and Elephants,

We hope that you have had a lovely weekend. Remember to complete the activity that matches the coloured sticker on the front of your work pack.

Remember to share your reading book or another story every day.

Floppy’s Phonics

We would like you to start your day with some phonics. You can practice your speed sounds every day by following the links on our class pages.

Red group – Today we would like you to look at the letter group ‘ow’ as in owl. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. owl, how, now, town, down. Use your phonic knowledge to read the words. Now ask a grown up to read the words so you can write them. Listen carefully to the sounds in the words. Can you put one of the words into a sentence?

Blue group – Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘sh’ as in ship. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. ship, shop, shall, dish, rush. Use your phonic knowledge to read the words. Now ask a grown up to read the words so you can write them. Listen carefully to the sounds in the words

Yellow group – Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘o’ as in octopus. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. on, dog, nod, pond. With your grown up use your phonic knowledge to read the words and have a go at copying the words.

Remember, say the sound, read the word.

This half term our topic is Transport, we are going to finish the Magic Train Ride this week.

Literacy

When the Magic Train travels through Fairy Land, the passengers make a wish.  What would your wish be?

Red – Write what your wish would be and why.

Children in red group can write their words and sentence independently.

Remember use your phonics to sound out the words you need, use your tricky word tree for words that do not sound out and remember finger spaces.

Blue – Write what your wish would be.

Children in blue group are getting good with their writing but will need some support.  Remember use your phonics and listen to the sounds in the words you need and have a really good go with your letter formation.

Yellow – Tell a grown up what you would wish for and get them to help you to write your wish.

Children in yellow group will need you to write the word so they can copy the writing.

Maths

Can you show an amount in different ways?  Grown ups can you show your child 5 fingers.  Ask your child to show you that number in lots of different ways.  They can use blocks, small world toys, their fingers, soft toys, dice or any item they can think of.

Ask your child these questions:

How does this five look different from that five?

What does this pattern of five look like?

What can you see?

How did you make five with two hands?

Red & Blue– Ask some more questions to develop your child’s reasoning skills:

How do you know these are the same number?

What is the same and what is different about these fives?

Can you show me five fingers in a different way? Is there another way?  What different patterns can you make with five blocks/ counters?  Can you see any numbers hidden inside this pattern of five?  Can you show me 15?  How do you know it is 15?

Now do some recording:  Can you draw or record your pattern?  Can you make something on paper to show how many there are?  Can you put some numbers to show what hidden numbers you see?

Yellow – Can you write number 5?

Repeat the activity the activity finding different ways of showing 3 and 4?

Don’t forget to practise writing these numbers too.

Thank you.
