Home Learning 4.5.20

Home Learning Monday 4th May 2020

Hello Monkeys and Elephants,

We hope that you enjoyed last week’s underwater activities. Remember to complete the activity that matches the coloured sticker on the front of your work pack.

Remember to share your reading book or another story every day.

Floppy’s Phonics

We would like you to start your day with some phonics. You can practice your speed sounds every day by following the links on our class pages.

Red group – Today we would like you to look at the letter group ‘ai’ as in aim. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. aim, rain, pain, sail, chain, paint. Use your phonic knowledge to read the words. Now ask a grown up to read the words so you can write them. Listen carefully to the sounds in the words. Can you put one of the words into a sentence?

Blue group – Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘j’ as in jug. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. jug, jog, jam, job. Use your phonic knowledge to read the words. Now ask a grown up to read the words so you can write them. Listen carefully to the sounds in the words

Yellow group – Today we would like you to look at the sound ‘s’ as in sun. Ask a grown up to write this list of words. sit, sat, sad, sap. With your grown up use your phonic knowledge to read the words and have a go at copying the words.

Remember, say the sound, read the word.

This half term our topic is Transport, we are going to be providing activities based around the ‘Barefoot Books’ Magic Train Ride.

Watch the video on the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8eSxrPzoZY0

Stop the video when it has reached 2:42 when the train leaves the Magic Wood

Literacy

We have been travelling to different lands on a magic train.  What other vehicles can you travel in?  Talk to your grown up and name as many as you can.

Red – Write a list of all of the vehicles that you know.  You can draw a picture of each vehicle.  Choose a vehicle and write a sentence about it.  What is it used for?

Children in red group can write their words and sentence independently.

Remember use your phonics to sound out the words you need, use your tricky word tree for words that do not sound out and remember finger spaces.

Blue – Write a list of all of the vehicles that you know.  You can draw a picture of each vehicle.

Children in blue group are getting good with their writing but will need some support.  Remember use your phonics and listen to the sounds in the words you need and have a really good go with your letter formation.

Yellow – Draw a picture of your favourite type of vehicle and with help from a grown up write what vehicle it is.

Children in yellow group will need you to write the word so they can copy the writing.

Maths

This week we are learning Subtraction.

Place up to 20/10/5 small objects on a tray. Once counted, the tray can be covered by a towel. When objects are removed from under the towel, place them next to the tray so that they can see how many you have taken away.

Red- using the method above, use 20 objects on a tray, can you work out the following subtraction questions?

20-3=                           18-4=

16-5=                            12-3=

14-2=                            15-1=

Blue– Using the method above, use 10 object on a tray, can you work out the following subtraction questions.

10-2=                                              9-3=

8-4=                                               7-6=

5-1=                                                4-3=

Can you put the starting number in your head? Can you count back to find how many are left.

Yellow – Using the same method as above, use 5 objects on the tray. The tray can be covered by a towel. Take 1 object away each time. Can the children count back 1 each time. Have a go and writing it as a number sentence, for example:

5-1=4

4-1=3

Thank you.
