Hello Crocodiles,
Here is today’s home learning activity:
Phonics & Literacy–
Please can you run through each letter of the alphabet with your child on the video below- encourage them to say the sound for each letter.
Today we are going to look at rhyming.
The most important way our children pick up on rhyme is by reading stories with rhyme in them and having the rhyming words pointed out to them so they can join in. For example:
“Little pig, Little pig, let me in”
“Not by the hair on my chinny, chin, chin”
Whilst reading stories like this you could change the word and give your child options seeing if they can choose the correct rhyming word.
E.g “Little pig, Little pig, let me in”
“Not by the hair on my leggy, leg, leg or chinny, chin, chin?
You could do this with nursery rhymes too! 🙂
Humpty Dumpty sat on a chair
Humpty Dumpty brushed his … teeth / dog / hair.
Encourage your child to listen for the word which sounds similar when you say or hear it and repeat with other rhyming stories or nursery rhymes.
Challenge– Can you play I spy with your child with rhyming words asking them to find the correct object out of 2/3 objects in front of them.
- I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with hat (apple, bat)
- I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with hair (shoe, chair)
- I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with leg (cup, peg, teddy)
- I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with head (bed, boat, book)
This is a very difficult concept for our children to get so do not worry if they find it tricky. Also expect some very silly answers & lots of giggles! 🙂
Thank you
Miss Crossley
