In order to provide the best possible education for all our pupils we set ourselves high standards and clear aims:
To provide a happy, safe and inspiring environment for all children through a culture of high aspirations and a love of learning. We are committed to ensure all children feel valued, confident and included in all aspects of school life. This is expressed through our motto of ‘Be the best you can be!’
The progress of all of our pupils is monitored closely every half term. We understand that every child’s needs are different, and we are mindful of this when planning their learning and additional support. Any child may have additional educational needs at some point during his or her time in school.
Where a child is identified as having SEND, school may take action to remove barriers to learning and put effective special educational provision in place. It is particularly important that there is no delay in making any necessary special educational provision. Early action to address identified needs is critical to the future progress and improved outcomes that are essential in helping the child to prepare for adult life. This SEND support may take the form of a four-part cycle (assess, plan, do, review) through which earlier decisions and actions are revisited, refined and revised with a growing understanding of the child’s needs and of what supports the child in making good progress and securing good outcomes. This is known as the graduated approach.
- Children of all abilities are supported through Quality First Teaching, otherwise known as a ‘Wave 1’ level of support.
- If a pupil requires support ‘additional to’ or ‘different from’ quality first teaching, provision will be made for them to have small group support to help close gaps in their learning. This support may take place in the classroom or in the shared learning areas. This small group support sometimes includes named intervention programmes and is referred to as ‘Wave 2’ level support. Children who receive support through a named intervention programme will be placed on the school’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities register. They may not stay on the register for long and we will always let you know when they are added/removed, as well as keeping you updated on the progress that they are making.
- If a pupil requires significant support ‘additional to’ or ‘different from’ wave 2 small group support they will receive individual packages of tailored support to match their SEND needs. Children who receive this level of support are placed on the SEND register and are often supported throughout the school day, having access to individual timetables, resources, sensory breaks and named intervention programs. This level of support is known as ‘Wave 3’ and our SENDco and class teachers will regularly receive support and guidance from outside professionals on how best to support your child. Wave 3 Support includes intensive support for pupils who are on a My Support Plan or Education and Health Care Plan.

We fully understand the emotional impact that any kind of learning or behavioural need can have on both a child and his/her parents and family. We aim to support the ‘whole child’ and their parents; not only address the child’s educational needs. We are proud of our excellent working relationship with our parents and consistently update and evolve our provision, responding to the needs of our children and families.
